ISESTORM event actually include?
Who are you?
ISECOM is a non-profit organization dedicated to
improving education, awareness, and methodologies especially in security. We are
best known as the providers of the
Open Source Security
Testing Methodology Manual, the international standard for
security testing, as well as
Hacker
Highschool, a security awareness program for high schoolers.
What is ISESTORM?
ISESTORM
is a unique, aggressive training course which brings together the
certifications in OPSA, OPST and BS7799/ISO270001 Auditor
and CISSP preparation into a
comprehensible hands-on learning environment at cost. We do
this so we can ensure that we are providing industry certified
education to the public at a very affordable price just to get more
people to actually understand how to improve security. It's more
than holding certifications, it's about applying them.
Is the training
theoretical or hands on?
It is a blend of theory and
hands-on with at least two-thirds of the course spent on the practical.
This allows us to have people do hands-on team work to support
learning by actually doing.
Why do the certifications all at once?
The
original idea was to offer the event over 3 weeks but we had
found the courses actually repeat some of the same
information. This allowed us to condense it to a total of 7
days without compromising the education. We also broke apart
different parts of the same courses to improve the education flow. What we have found is that although many
people do not want to lose a week of work for education, many prefer to
do it all at once for the year and have their preparations and studies
behind them so as to hit the ground running when they return to work.
Are the official
exams provided with the training price?
The official exams
which we can provide are indeed provided within the one price. This
is the OPSA, OPST, and the BS7799/ISO270001 Auditor. The exams are
the official versions as offered by the British Standards group and
ISECOM. The OPSA and OPST are ISECOM certifications therefore we
certainly do provide that. There are no additional costs outside of
the event and your travel costs. The CISSP exam is not part of this
event although the CBK review is included.
Are there any
prerequisites for the training?
Absolutely.
As the event will prepare you for the exams, depending on your level of
knowledge you may need to do additional work. You should prepare
for the BS7799/ISO270001 Auditor, OPSA, and
OPST as recommended at their official websites. For BSI there are many types of
books you can buy which will prepare you for the exam. We even
provide books for them on your first day of class and have a drawing
for those who register early to win comprehensive CISSP self-learning
courses. For the OPSA, the materials are available for
download. You can find out details at
http://www.isestorm.org/certifications.shtml.
Does ISECOM
maintain the certification authority for all exams?
No. ISECOM
maintains certification authority only over the OPSA and OPST. The
BSI Group, who maintains ISO27001/BS7799 Auditor, is at
http://www.bsi-global.com/. The exam as well as restrictions are
respectively under their charge.
Are there any
materials provided with the class?
Yes.
All presentations, associated workbooks, associated manuals, associated
checklists, and inclusive subject matter books from sponsors are
included.
What are the
maximum number of attendees allowed?
ISESTORM is designed for a maximum of 35 students.
What if I can't
attend all 7 days?
Although we strongly suggest that
you do attend and participate all 6 days for maximum training, if you
cannot, you will still be able to come the days which you are able to
attend and still take the exams. However, we do expect you inform us
and your team if you are planning on only partial participation.
Are computers and
Internet access available?
There will be a limited number of
PCs with Internet access and printer available to you. However, we
strongly recommend you bring a laptop and a wireless card with you for
more accessibility and control.
If ISECOM is
non-profit, why isn't ISESTORM free?
Non-profit does not mean "not paying the bills". As it is, ISESTORM is provided at
cost. This means that we have made adjustments to break-even from the costs of
the event. However, any additional funds earned from attending
students and sponsors are actually helping us provide other ISECOM projects
such as Hacker Highschool or the OSSTMM which require tremendous
amounts of resources but are provided freely.
What are the
payment options for the training event?
You may pay by credit card
through our online payment system. We will accept
checks and money orders at our New York office as well before March
1st. If you need to send a check or money order, please contact
ISECOM for details.
Is the course
tax-deductible as a non-profit donation?
Sorry, but only sponsorships are
tax-deductible. You cannot receive a tax deduction for services
rendered such as training.
So what does the
ISESTORM event actually include?
The training event includes:

Auditor, the OPSA and the CISSP certifications and to later apply it
